HAPPIER, HEALTHIER, YOU
"Hypnosis is a state of human consciousness involving focused attention and reduced peripheral awareness characterized by an enhanced capacity for response to suggestion".(Wikipedia)
Simply put, hypnosis is a state of highly focused attention in a relaxed state. This allows for both your conscious and subconscious mind to work together creating an enhanced capacity to influence and alter your perceptions from the subconscious level. The process involves the mind's own natural abilities to help with a variety of concerns, having rapid psychological results in a few session. This trance-like state is similar to being completely absorbed in listening to you favourite music, driving a car, or even one's own thoughts.
While under hypnosis (i.e., in a hypnotic trance), many people are much more open to helpful suggestions than they usually are, allowing a "back door" entry to consciousness where positive suggestions can take root as important behavioural or psychological changes. Clients can turn their attention completely inward to find and utilize the natural resources deep within themselves that can help them make changes or regain control in certain areas of their life. The mind is used to help with a variety of issues, such as breaking bad habits (i.e. smoking, nail biting), fears, phobias, weight loss, pain management, sports performance, or coping with stress to name a few. NLP, also know as Neruo-Linguistic Programming is a powerful tool that is often used to further compliment these sessions.
Reasons to use trance-work may involve some or all of the following:
To facilitate freedom from typical conscious constraint
To create a focused and calm state to enable sub-conscious inner exploration
Creating a safe space for more complex regressions in memory
To deepen somatic (body) awareness connecting with emotions
To connect mind-body-spirit
THE TRUTH ABOUT HYPNOSIS
Fact vs. Fiction
Unlike some dramatic portrayals of hypnosis in movies, books, or on stage, you will not be unconscious, asleep, or in any way out of control of yourself. You are in control during the entire session. As you hear the therapist’s suggestions, it is up to you to decide whether or not to act on them. The therapist will guide you into a relaxed, focused state whereby positive suggestions and visualizations are integrated to help you change the way you think and behave. Your mind has the power to heal, all you have to do is change it from the inside.
